Facebook adds username, barcode scanning and link sharing function to Facebook Messenger

Facebook has just announced a new feature for the Facebook Messenger app. This feature will allow users to have their own unique messenger username, bar code and link. These three features are to enable users connect more easily with people; there will be no need for the somewhat mechanical process of finding people by their real names and adding them, you also get to avoid that awkward moment when you are asking an acquaintance to spell his/her name so that you can add him/her. These new features, especially the username and barcode is reminiscent to Blackberry Messenger’s BBM pin.

Since, setting up your username is already done, all you need do is go to your settings tab, where you will find your username and you can share it with anyone. Same goes for your Facebook Messenger links, you can send it to someone you want to chat with, and you both meet up on Messenger; that’s after he/she must have followed the link. You can also place tour username or links on the web, in order to connect with people of choice.

Facebook says, “Messenger Codes are the best way to find people in Messenger, whether you’re standing side-by-side or looking at your computer screen. No matter where you are – online or at an event – all you have to do is scan a code someone shares with you, and then you can start that important conversation”.

These Facebook Messenger updates are being rolled out already, therefore, you should be seeing it anytime soon, that’s if you do not have it already. That’s all there is to this new features, so try it out and share your experience with thought the comment box.
