Is Android Kit Kat The Next Version Of The Android? Yes!

Is Android Kit Kat The Next Version Of The Android

Is Android Kit Kat really the next version of the Android operating system? It sure is.

Google has launched a website about Kit Kat — the software, not the candy — though it doesn’t reveal much beyond the fact that its goal with the next version of the software is to “make an amazing Android experience available for everyone.”

Kit Kat, popular chocolate brand has gone into partnership with Google to release the next version of the android OS named KitKat.

At first, it was rumored the next android will be called Key Lime Pie but that is not the case, obviously.

The new innovation by Google was announced by Sundar Pichai, Senior VP at Google, through his Google+ page and twitter account, earlier today.

Sundar Pichai also announced that Android had hit 1 billion activations while he provided the new “treat”. It’s quite an accomplishment, if not one of the greatest ever achieved by a mobile phone operating system.

Before now, Google has worked with Nestle, the makers of KitKat chocolate. Nestle will make a number of Android-themed Kit Kat bars.

According to Nestle, more than 50 million specially branded chocolate bars will be available in 19 markets, including the U.S, U.K, Canada and the Middle East. When you buy the bar, you will be able to enter to win Google prizes, including the Nexus 7 tablet. According to Nestle’s press release, they will also make a limited number of robot-shaped bars.

Google has never named a version of their OS after a trademarked brand. No Hershey. No Krispy Kreme. No Ben & Jerry’s. Google’s names have always been generic names of dessert categories.

Google has named each of its Android versions in alphabetical order after deserts, starting with Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean and now Kit Kat.

Google has always been a more playful company, known for their Google Search Doodles and zany April Fools Day jokes, so initially there was debate whether the image was authentic or a hoax. But make no mistake about it… Google Android 4.4 Kit Kat is official.

We’re not surprised that Android Kit Kat is 4.4 instead of version 5. Lately, Google has been more iterative than revolutionary, thanks much in part to the maturation of the platform. Bringing Android to as many people as possible sounds very iterative, unless we’re in for an outrageous surprise by seeing Android on even more types of devices.

Sundar also shared his pure joy of coming back from his trip to Asia and seeing the new KitKat statue on the front lawn of Google HQ. Seems like he can’t wait for its release, can you?
