The Nokia 3310 is back, more modern yet as classic and rugged as ever

If you have been abreast with news on Nokia and their plans for 2017, you should be in the know about the rumours on the said plan to reincarnate the iconic Nokia 3310 at the Mobile World Congress. True to rumours  and subsequently Nokia’s announcements, the Nokia 3310 has made its way back from memory into present time. Ordinarily, in this day and time, no one should be excited about the launch of a device that is not a smartphone, even so, the excitement remains unbridled because the Nokia 3310 brings our nostalgia to live and for this reason and others much like it, we (AndroidNigeria) have decided to profile this beloved non-Android device.

The new Nokia 3310 comes in a similar candy bar size as its ancestor. The device is given the same rugged exterior but comes with exciting colours than the former. Nokia 3310 comes with an upgraded screen; it sports a 2.4-inch QVGA color display. HMD  (the official manufacturer of the Nokia devices) says the pixel density of the Nokia 3310 is tuned to ensure that it can be used comfortably under the sun. The device also comes with an upgraded software running the Nokia Series 30+ and sports a 2MP rear camera with flash. According to Nokia, the camera is for documentation and not for taking spectacular works of art.

Pleasingly, the 3310 comes media enabled as it comes fitted with a memory card holder and a SIM holder for two SIM cards and it is enabled for browsing (it isn’t dull after all). Other than these, the device boosts a durable battery, which the manufacturers say can last for up to a month on standby and offer up to 22hrs talk time.

Of course, what would be a 3310 without the classic snake game? This 3310 refresh comes with a coloured snake game compared to its predecessor. Above all, the Nokia 3310 retains an important core feature of the old 3310, which is its affordable price. The device sells for €49 which approximately 16,500.

Who will this phone appeal to, you may wonder. Well, it goes to those who need a reliable second phone that can go for days without charging and remain functional for years with little or no care. If you desire a unit for yourself, you would have to wait until Nokia discloses details on availability. Rest assured, this device will be promoted massively in these parts (Africa), however, the degree of success it will achieve may be stunted due to the final cost of the device when it is converted from Euros to Naira or whatever currency your country uses. At that point, the Nokia 3310 may become prohibitively expensive for some, as it will be a peanut sum some for others and similarly a moderate price to other people.
