The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ was unpacked some days back, and it’s really time for introductions. The two devices are mostly different in display size – the Galaxy S8 has a 5.8″ display, the Galaxy S8+ reaches 6.2″. Both are Super AMOLEDs with a supplementary wide aspect proportion of 18.5:9, they have the same image resolution too (1,440 x 2,960px) and also have the rounded edges of the display. The flagship duo is waterproof as you’ll expect (IP68) and Samsung turned to the latest Gorilla glass 5 to strengthen the screen.
The display of both devices supports HDR10. This was made possible through a partnership between Samsung and Amazon. S8 and S8+ screens are also the first Ultra Dynamic Range certified screen, but details are scarce. This time Samsung chose to remove the hardware control buttons for a pressure sensitive on-screen control keys. The South Korean company claims that its tactile feedback is better than Apple’s.
Still talking about buttons, Samsung added a new button to both devices. This button summons Samsung’s latest Ai Bixby. Bixby has three functions, the first is to answer voice queries, the second being its visual function. It could start to see the world around it too, not simply pay attention to it. Image recognition can identify landmarks and discover products on Amazon.com. Finally, there is a hub on the home screen that is a lot like Google Now.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ specifications
Let’s focus on the Galaxy S8+ now, the superior variant of the Galaxy S8 duo comes with a rear camera hardware that is the same as the 12MP Dual Pixel sensor on the S7 but with increased software – it catches multiple exposures to improve image quality (Samsung calls it Multiframe Processing and it seems nearly the same as Google’s HDR+). The selfie camera comes with an 8MP sensor and autofocus (with brilliant face diagnosis and Multiframe Processing).
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be the first devices to be unveiled with 1 gigabit LTE, because of the Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895 chipsets. Different countries get a different type of chipset, but performance should be virtually identical between your two. For some countries, you can say they are getting a preferential treatment from Samsung because most of the world will be getting an S8/S8+ powered by a 4GB RAM and 64GB internal memory while select countries like China and Korea, presumably; are certain to get 6GB/128GB instead.
Possibly the only other difference between your S8 and S8+ besides price is the power supply. The S8 gets a 3,000mAh power supply, however, the bigger Galaxy S8+ includes a 3,500mAh battery. Both are closed and show Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging (the relatively old Quick charge 2.0 is also supported alongside fast cellular charging, both WPC and PMA).
