After lots of anticipation, Samsung finally unveiled one of the most talked about Smartwatches and its no other than the Samsung Galaxy Gear.
The unveiling occurred at IFA in Berlin Germany, yesterday.
With the listed specs and the sophisticated style of the Samsung Galaxy Gear at the event, one can come to an astonishing conclusion that Samsung actually unveiled the height of creativity.
Certain specs of the Samsung Galaxy Gear were revealed by Samsung at IFA and we got it all covered for you.
The metal frame of The Samsung Galaxy Gear will come in two great colors – silver and rose gold. Nevertheless, the wrist bands will arrive in Oatmeal Beige, Rose Gold, Jet Black, Mocha Grey, Wild Orange, or Lime Green.
With great ‘stealth’, the camera is added to the wrist band of The Samsung Galaxy Gear. However, Samsung failed to reveal the camera’s mega pixels. But we believe it will be awesome as they hinted it could take 10 second videos in high definition.
The Super AMOLED screen of The Galaxy Gear is 1.63-inches square, with a 320 x 320 resolution and 278 PPI.
Wondered how much power the new Samsung Smartwatch can hold? Samsung did good in taking the battery into conclusion and we are talking about the 315mAh battery and is said to get you a full 24 hour power under “normal use”. Nevertheless, it will diminish much faster with an intensive activity of any kind.
Samsung does report the device will charge in about 1.5 hours on the included cradle, and uses pins on the back of the face to connect to the Gear.
About the processor powering the Galaxy Gear, we know it will be powered by the 800 MHz Exynos processor but what is not certain yet is if it is dual or quad. But some test runs carried out on the Samsung Galaxy Gear revealed some sluggish processing and speed so the processor definitely isn’t that great.
Two microphones are present at both sides of The Super AMOLED screen and they are being noted to help in voice to text feature, noise cancellations or even control voice calls.
The home button will rest on the right side, and clicking that will take you to S-Voice, Samsung’s Google Now substitute.
To the software, the Samsung Galaxy Gear runs on the Android jelly beans. The home screen shows a clock by default, like every other watch. But you have the opportunity to swipe on the screen to the left or right. Swiping to the left will give you notifications like text or email from the parent device (more on that in a minute), settings, and apps.
Dragging down from the top will send you back to the home screen, and dragging down from the homescreen launches the camera. When paired to a device, it will disable the pattern lock screen.
For now, the Samsung Galaxy Gear will work with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. We cite such possibility probably because of the upgrade of The Note 3 to TouchWiz. Asides that, Samsung didn’t mention any reasons why the Note 3 is the only compatible device to the Samsung Gear.
Other features include pedometer, notifications, music controls.
Samsung promised more than 70 apps to be launched on the Galaxy Gear. Evernote, Pinterest, and RunKeeper. Gear Manager, an app available for the Note 3, will surely be on the apps list.
