Gionee unveils the Gionee S9, a metal clad phone with a dual camera setup


Gionee is certainly one of the few companies that has a sizeable stake in the Nigerian consumer market. The company is famous for making smartphones with formidably long-lasting batteries. Following the popular end of the year device unveiling culture of the tech industry, Gionee has unveiled their much-anticipated Gionee S9. The S9 has been in the news for a few weeks now; Gionee expertly managed the leaks on the device until they took the wraps off it.

The Gionee S9 falls into the lower category of high-end devices. The device sports a 5.5-icnh screen with Full HD resolution and a 2.5D glass covering. The S9’s metal body houses a Helio P10 processor clocked at 2GHz. The processor is matched with a Mali T860 GPU, 4GB RAM and a 64GB internal storage (expandable up to 128GB with Micro SD card).


For pictures and videos, Gionee S9 has dual rear cameras (13MP and 5MP) and a 13MP camera on the front. The device is runs Android Marshmallow tweaked with Gionee’s Amigo 3.2 OS.

Gionee S9 is powered by a 3,000mAh battery and comes with power saving features installed on the device. The device supports dual SIM connectivity, however it is a hybrid SIM setup, this means you have to remove one SIM before you can add a memory card to expand the devices memory. Gionee S9 will come in three colours, Gold, Rose Gold, and black. The device will be available as from 25 November in China and will sell at approximately $365 (well over 130,000). When the device will be available to other regions is still unknown, however, it is expected to launch later this year or early next year in countries, Gionee operate.
